Weekend Entertainment Recap: October 10th

Basketball fans were shocked as the weekend kicked off with a leaked video of NBA star Draymond Green punching a fellow player on the Golden State Warriors, Jordan Poole. Since the video has been released, Green provided a public apology and announced that he will step away from the team indefinitely after the altercation which occurred on Wednesday.

The two have typically had a close relationship although the exact reason behind the punch has yet to be disclosed. Despite taking a leave of absence, Green has stated that he plans to be available on October 18 when the Warriors go against the Los Angeles Lakers.

As Draymond Green threw punches, his NBA colleague LeBron James was busy throwing his son an 18th birthday party fit for a baller. LeBron “Bronny” James Jr. celebrated his 18th birthday on October 6. He commemorated the occasion over the weekend with family, friends, and Grammy-nominated rapper Travis Scott.

Travis Scott performed hits such as “Butterfly Effect” and “Sicko Mode” while the high school basketball star, his pro-athlete father and the rest of the crowd sang along.

Although Nicki Minaj was not present for the baller birthday bash, she will be available for students to study during the upcoming spring semester at the University of California Berkeley. The university confirmed the “Nicki Minaj: The Black Barbie Femmecee & Hip Hop Feminisms,” course will be offered to students.

It was designed to encourage students to think about how Minaj’s impact on the hip-hop music industry connects to the “broader historical-social structures and hip-hop feminisms,” according to the course’s professor. More details on the class are being finalized and the Queen of the Barbz has expressed interest in visiting the class.

Gaming enthusiasts also got a chance to see a collaboration between Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby and Pete Davidson. ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’ released a new live-action trailer featuring the celebrities ahead of the game’s October 28th release date. Gamers can pre-order their copy of Call of Duty for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox S4 and PC at a price of $69.99.

This weekend another unlikely collaboration had social media users buzzing, as the fashion brand, Balenciaga, teamed up with the chip company, Lay’s, to create purses. Whether you call it high fashion or a serious fail, the bags were successful in gaining attention. The luxury Spanish fashion brand created bags that look just like some of Lay’s most popular flavors including salt and vinegar and classic plain.

The Lay’s Branded bags made their debut at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2023, and Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia referred to the accessories as “Balenciaga’s next must-have bag.”
