The Weekend Recap: Cancelled Performances, Celebrations, Demonstrations and More

The Weekend Entertainment Recap: November 21st

R&B singer Chris Brown and the American Music Awards have been making headlines since he announced that his performance for this year’s show was canceled. Chris Brown was supposed to perform as part of a tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, but the performance was inexplicably cut from the show. In addition to the chopped tribute, the singer was also booed after winning an award Sunday evening for Best Male R&B Artist. Despite receiving a disapproving response, Kelly Rowland continued presenting the award and simply asked the crowd to chill out.

Fellow R&B singer Trey Songz is also taking some heat due to new allegations of assault. A New York City woman has accused the singer of assaulting her in a public restroom. Mitchell Schuster, a legal rep for Trey Songz, told TMZ that “a source close to the investigation informs us that TS has been cooperative with authorities and expects that when all the evidence is reviewed, he will be exonerated.” No official charges or set of verified facts have come forward at this time. However, the NYPD is investigating the matter.

The men of R&B may be on the outs with the public, but breakout rapper GloRilla is on the come up. The “F.N.F” rapper from Memphis was signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG Records back in July of this year. She announced her first tour, “Anyways, Life’s Great,”  on Friday and tickets sold out the same day. The tour is expected to start on January 27, 2023, in Charlotte, North Carolina, and end with a performance in her hometown.

Reality star Porsha Williams is celebrating as well. The ex-Real Housewives of Atlanta star shared a photo of her and her fiance, Simon Guobadia, last weekend from a photo shoot in Dubai. She took to social media to show off her luxurious bachelorette weekend in Miami. Her bridesmaids include her sister Lauren Williams, best friend Shamea Morton and reality star Yandy Smith.

Brooklyn Nets point guard, Kyrie Irving is joining the celebration club with GloRilla and Porsha as his team won Sunday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies. This is a change of pace from the past few weeks of backlash and claims of antisemitism. Irving returned from his suspension and was met with a large presentation from Black Hebrew Israelites. The men, all dressed in purple and gold t-shirts, were captured standing in various formations and chanting in support of Irving. Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown reposted a video of the men on his social media with the caption “Energy.”
