Millions of Americans are heading to the polls today (Nov.4) for Election Day.

Residents in New Jersey, Virginia, California, Georgia, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas are all voting for key proposals or government positions such as the race for governor and mayor.

In California, all eyes will be on whether voters will choose to redraw the state’s congressional boundaries in a special election dedicated to redistricting. The decision will set the stage for next year’s midterm elections, when it will be decided on whether Democrats or Republicans will have the House majority for the last two years of the Trump administration.

Meanwhile, in New Jersey and Virginia, voters will decide who will lead their state as governor. Early voting data showed strong support for both Democratic candidates, with US Rep. Mikie Sherrill (N.J.) and Abigail Spanberger (VA) leading in their respective gubernatorial races.

Although each race is drawing attention, all eyes will be on the highly publicized race for NYC mayor. This year’s race has already recorded the highest-ever early in-person voting turnout for a nonpresidential election in the state of New York, drawing in 735,000 ballots and attracting more young voters.

Candidates campaigned across the city yesterday in the lead-up to Election Day as independent candidate Andrew Cuomo received a late endorsement from President Donald Trump. In a post on Truth Social, Trump urged voters to vote for Cuomo because they “really have no choice,” threatening to cut funds if “communist” Zohran Mamdani, who is a Democratic Socialist, wins.

In response, Mamdani suggested that he would take legal action if funds were impacted once elected.

“I will address that threat for what it is: It is a threat. It is not the law,” he said at an event in Queens. “And too often, we treat everything that comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth as if it is already legal, just by virtue of who is saying it.”

In a poll released this weekend, Mamdani led with 40% of the vote. In comparison, Cuomo received 34% while Curtis Sliwa took approximately 24%. The 34-year-old State Assemblyman is the favorite to win the race. Throughout his run for mayor, Mamdani has gained support for running his campaign around affordability, promising free child care, free transportation and freezing stabilized rent.

On the eve of Election Day, host of the Karen Hunter Show and Pultizer-prize Prize-winning journalist and author, Karen Hunter, emphasized the importance of taking action to create a better society.

“This thing is rotten at the core and we are seeing it every day be rotten, so let’s reimagine what should America look like,” said Hunter. “What should your neighborhood look like? What should this country look like? What should the world look like? Let’s get busy. Let’s get busy building it because it’s in us to do it and actually, if we don’t do it, it won’t get done.”

Through voting, U.S. citizens have the opportunity to elect an official dedicated to addressing existing issues. With topics such as Proposition 50 on the ballot, they can also set the stage for a shift in the House of Representatives’ majority to Democratic rule.

Registered voters can use websites such as USA.gov to find local polling places and confirm which states require voter IDs. The website also provides voter guides and sample ballots to review before heading to the polls.

Overall, polls are open as early as 6 a.m. local time and run as late as 9 p.m. The races are expected to be called later in the night.
