May is National Mental Health Awareness Month.
NMHAM was founded in 1949. Organizations, non-profits and those in the healthcare industry work hard to tackle the stigma, provide support, educate the public, and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.
African American adults are 20% more likely to experience mental health issues than the rest of the population and are 15% less likely than their white counterparts to seek treatment for a mental health issue.
