Kyle Rittenhouse, acquitted last year on charges that he murdered two white men and wounded another at the Kenosha, Wisconsin protests last summer, has announced the launch of his Media Accountability Project.
“Me and my team have decided to launch the Media Accountability Project as a tool to help fundraise and hold the media accountable for the lies they say and deal with them in court,” he said to Tucker Carlson on Fox News on Monday night. “I don’t want to see anybody else have to deal with what I went through. So I want to hold them accountable for what they did to me because I don’t want to see anybody have to go through what I went through.”
While Rittenhouse has excepted his newfound fame as a right-wing celebrity, he rejects allegations that he is a white supremacist.
He has singled out several high-profile media personalities, including Whoopi Goldberg and one of the hosts of the popular news outlet, “Young Turks.”
“We’re going to hold everybody who lied about me accountable, such as everybody who lied and called me a white supremacist,” he told Tucker, as well as “a few politicians, celebrities, athletes.”
“He called me a murderer before I was acquitted and continues to call me a murderer,” he said of Uygur. Rittenhouse says that “The View,” co-host Goldberg called him a “murdere” after he was acquitted.
Last month, Rittenhouse’s legal team filed a motion seeking the return of the gun, AR-15-style rifle back, and other property that police seized after his arrest.
Rittenhouse claims he wants the weapon back so that he can have it destroyed. Rittenhouse family spokesman David Hancock told AP News that Rittenhouse also plans to throw out his clothing so that no one can use any of it to “celebrate” the shootings.
“At the end of the day, two people did lose their lives, period,” Hancock said. “That weapon was involved in that. That weapon doesn’t belong on a mantle. It doesn’t belong in a museum. It belongs where Kyle wants it, and Kyle wants it destroyed. … There’s plenty of people out there who would like to hold these items up, on both sides. That’s nothing Kyle’s interested in.”
