Krispy Kreme is now offering free doughnuts to customers vaccinated against Covid-19.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 30, any customers with proof they have received the vaccine two free doughnuts every day until Sept. 5.
The brand has been offering free doughnuts to its customers since March, when it announced that the vaccinated would receive a free doughnut every day for the rest of the year if they had received the jab.
“We all hoped we’d be near the end of this pandemic by now. We’re not,” said Krispy Kreme’s Chief Marketing Officer Dave Skena in a press release. “So, please consider getting vaccinated if you’ve not done so already. And then enjoy and share two amazing doughnuts with our heart-felt thanks.”
The announcement comes on the heels of the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
“The FDA approving one of the vaccines is a meaningful step in making people a lot more comfortable with how they take vaccines,” Krispy Kreme CEO Mike Tattersfield told USA TODAY. “And if we can encourage folks, we’re giving away a second doughnut next week that will be in the shape of a heart.”
The chain says it has given away 2.5 million doughnuts so far.
Last month, President Joe Biden called on states and local governments to offer residents as much as $100 to get vaccinated.
“Vaccines are the best defense against you getting severely ill from COVID-19 — the very best defense,” Biden said in remarks from the White House.
“I know that paying people to get vaccinated might sound unfair to folks who’ve gotten vaccinated already,” Biden said, “but here’s the deal: If incentives help us beat this virus, I think we should use them. We all benefit when we get more people vaccinated.”
