The American College of Education (ACE) announced it is offering two full education program scholarships to graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
“We believe very strongly at ACE that education is a key driver of empowerment,” said ACE President Dr. Shawntel Landry. “We’re proud to offer this scholarship as part of our ongoing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.”
The scholarships are for the August 24, 2021, term.
Applicants must submit a 500-word essay. The prompts are given on the website.
The scholarships will be available for one master’s-level applicant and one doctoral-level applicant. Candidates must apply by June 20 and will be chosen by July 16.
According to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), HBCUs make up only 3% of the country’s colleges and universities but enroll 10% of all African American students and produce almost 20% of all African American graduates.
72% of Black students take on debt as they seek their degrees compared to just 56% of their white peers.
The UNCF made headlines last month after announcing Atlanta business and civic leader Milton H. Jones, Jr. as Chair of the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) Board of Directors, becoming the first-ever African American to hold that position.
“Since 1944, UNCF has played an integral role in changing the life trajectory for each student it has served, and l look forward to continuing that legacy,” said Milton Jones in the official press release. “Our member institutions and students remain the focus of our collective efforts. As we progress each year, we will grow our organization by building upon the strong foundation laid at UNCF’s inception and strengthened throughout its history.”
